Beril Kilicaslan & Melih Hendekli: Istanbul, Turkey

Not even the most geographically sheltered city of kings could keep Beril and Melih from conquering each other’s hearts. Beril, a financial coordinator for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute at Harvard’s Medical School and Melih, a media software manager in an advertising firm, both Turkish, met in Boston, where they both relocated to obtain their masters degrees.

They first met at a mutual friend’s party, but it wasn’t too long after that they were celebrating their “Soz” (Promise or Engagement) at the Marmara Sailing Club with 100 of their friends in Istanbul. Melih fell in love with Beril after her warm and inviting eyes captivated him and she found in him the most kind and gentle soul.

Ever since he proposed by popping a balloon with a heart-shaped red box inside, the couple envisioned their dream wedding party in the city of irresistible beauty, Istanbul. This is a city where not only a lot of civilization’s history has been made but one where the couple planned to make a little history of their own.

Beril was a stunning bride wearing a classic strapless gown with a long lace train designed by Oleg Cassini. She carried a bouquet of fresh white roses held together by a simple ribbon but surrounded with the richness of pearls. She celebrated her union to her soul mate at the historical SAIT HALIM PASA MANSION joined by 350 other attendees. The happy couple entered the dining area after a presentation of glorious fireworks. The exotic combination of fragrant white lilies and glowing white candles in golden chandeliers welcomed the guests.

A sword cut the six-tiered white chocolate cake with strawberry and raspberry filling after the newlyweds danced to One Sweet Day by Mariah Carrey. Converting the Mansion room into a white (Beril’s favorite color) fairy tale ball was accomplished in just one week with the expert help of their Turkish wedding planner.

Even though Beril and Melih were only king and queen of their palace for a day, you can be sure that the joy of their union will follow them in real life as they travel the world, play tennis, go to movies, BBQ, and drink margaritas into the sunset.
